UAE Cyprus strategic partnership

The United Arab Emirates and Cyprus are expanding cooperation in numerous spheres and sectors after conducting high-level meetings to boost relations and cooperation in various fields in light of recent regional developments.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with his counterpart Nikos Christodoulides from Cyprus in order to enhance existing ties and cooperation in multiple spheres and industries such as trade, innovation and technology, renewable energy, tourism, and education.

Enhancing Collaboration in Various Spheres: Key Areas for Further Discussion

Both countries have decided to cooperate more closely in different economic and development-oriented sectors by holding discussions regarding the following areas and topics:

  • Trade and investments
  • Technological innovation and development
  • Energy, including renewable energy
  • Infrastructure and transportation
  • Education and culture
  • Tourism and leisure

In addition, both parties reiterated the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established earlier and stated that it would become the basis for further development and cooperation in economic and development-related areas.

It should be emphasized that the Presidency of Cyprus in the Council of the European Union became another reason for holding such a high-level meeting as it creates numerous opportunities for discussing possible steps to develop relations between the UAE and EU.

Opportunities for Free Trade Agreement between UAE and EU

One of the most critical topics covered during the meeting was free trade negotiations conducted between the UAE and the European Union.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed stressed that it would create opportunities for establishing new trade, economic, and investment relations while enhancing UAE-Cyprus cooperation within the context of EU.

The move represents one of the elements of UAE’s strategy aimed at strengthening international ties and diversifying the economy.

Regional Stability and Humanitarian Issues

In addition to economic development, the topic of discussion included regional and international issues such as ongoing political conflicts in the Middle East region.

Specifically, the parties discussed possibilities to resolve these disputes diplomatically in order to achieve greater stability and to increase their efforts aimed at alleviating humanitarian crisis experienced by Palestinians living in Gaza.

The issue requires a great deal of cooperation with other countries to reduce suffering experienced by ordinary people.

Strategic Partnership between UAE and Cyprus Becomes Reality

The increased cooperation of the UAE and Cyprus becomes another example of the UAE’s efforts to establish strategic relationships with various countries around the globe.

In particular, the fact that Cyprus is an EU member located in the Eastern Mediterranean region becomes the key factor for developing relations with it as it serves as an important gateway for further partnerships with other countries located in the European Union.

The enhanced cooperation will create new opportunities in different spheres including tourism, energy connectivity, logistics, and innovative projects.

Conclusion

The UAE continues strengthening its international ties by forming strategic partnerships and entering into new agreements.
