MBRSG Launches UAE Model Research Centre to Document UAE’s Government Experience

The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) has launched the UAE Model Research Centre. It is creating a dedicated platform to study, document and share the UAE’s experience in government, economic development, innovation and public-sector transformation.

The centre will turn government experiences and institutional knowledge into research papers, policy briefs, case studies and other practical resources. The aim is not simply to record what the UAE has achieved. Rather, it is to examine how those achievements were developed and what other policymakers and institutions can learn from them.

For the UAE, the initiative adds another piece to its broader push to build a knowledge-driven economy. It will also strengthen the country’s position as a centre for government innovation and policy research.

UAE Model Research Centre Turns Government Experience Into Research

The UAE Model Research Centre has been established to examine the country’s government and development experience in a more structured way. MBRSG will study policies, programmes and institutional practices that have shaped the UAE’s development. It will convert those experiences into research that can be accessed by policymakers, researchers, government leaders and practitioners.

The centre is expected to focus on the practical side of government development. Instead of looking only at outcomes, its research will examine the approaches, decisions and experiences behind them. This gives the initiative a stronger applied-research dimension. In addition, it creates a platform for documenting knowledge that might otherwise remain within individual government institutions.

The centre will also contribute to knowledge exchange around the UAE’s government model. This gives local experiences a research framework that can be studied both within the country and internationally.

Research Will Examine the UAE’s Development and Governance Model

The centre will cover areas closely connected to the UAE’s transformation, including governance, economic development, innovation and public-sector performance. These areas reflect the country’s broader development strategy, where government capability has increasingly been linked with economic competitiveness and investment.

MBRSG plans to produce research material that can help explain how specific government approaches were developed and implemented. The research will draw on UAE experiences and turn them into material that can support policymakers and government professionals looking for practical examples.

Dr Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of MBRSG, said the centre builds on the school’s experience in research, public policy and capacity building. He highlighted the importance of documenting the UAE’s accumulated government experience. He also emphasized converting it into knowledge that can be studied and applied.

UAE Model Knowledge Series Will Publish Research and Policy Briefs

A major part of the centre’s work will come through the UAE Model Knowledge Series, a programme that will produce books, research papers, reports and policy briefs. These will be focused on the country’s government experience.

The series is intended to capture lessons from UAE government practices and present them in a format that researchers, policymakers and practitioners can use. It also gives the centre a continuing publication platform. Rather than limiting its work to individual research projects, this allows for ongoing impact.

For the UAE’s government and business ecosystem, the initiative could provide a useful record of how major programmes evolved and how public institutions approached complex challenges. It creates a bridge between government experience and formal research.

UAE Case Study Platform Will Examine Government Practices

The UAE Case Study Platform will provide another channel for documenting specific government experiences. The platform will develop detailed case studies that look more closely at programmes, policies and practices implemented across the UAE.

Case studies can provide a different level of detail from conventional policy reports. They can show how a programme was designed, the challenges encountered during implementation and the decisions that shaped its eventual outcome.

For government leaders and researchers, this type of documentation can make the UAE experience easier to study and adapt. It also supports MBRSG’s wider objective of turning practical government experience into institutional knowledge.

Zero Bureaucracy Programme Becomes an Early Research Focus

The centre’s launch included an in-depth policy brief examining the UAE’s Zero Bureaucracy Programme. This makes the initiative one of its first major research subjects.

The programme provides a useful example of the type of government transformation the new centre intends to study. Rather than simply describing the UAE’s efforts to reduce administrative procedures, the research examines the programme as a policy and institutional experience.

The focus reflects the centre’s broader approach of taking an existing government initiative and looking at the lessons that can be extracted from it. Future research is expected to apply a similar approach to other programmes and experiences across the UAE.

New Network Will Support International Knowledge Exchange

The UAE Model Research Centre will also look beyond research publications by developing initiatives aimed at connecting UAE government knowledge with experts and institutions abroad.

Among the planned initiatives is the UAE Model Ambassadors Network, which will bring together leaders, experts and practitioners who can contribute to knowledge exchange around the UAE’s experience. The centre also plans executive education and capacity-building programmes linked to its research and case studies.

Partnerships with government entities, universities, research organisations and knowledge institutions in the UAE and overseas are expected to support this work. That could give the centre a wider role in connecting UAE government experience with international policy and leadership discussions.

Research Could Strengthen the UAE’s Knowledge Economy

The launch comes as the UAE continues to invest heavily in knowledge, innovation, technology and institutional development as part of its long-term economic strategy.

Government capability has become increasingly important to the country’s competitiveness. Businesses, investors and international organisations look not only at infrastructure and market access. They also consider the quality of institutions, regulatory systems and public services when considering where to establish operations.

A dedicated research centre focused on the UAE’s government experience adds another layer to that ecosystem. By documenting how policies and government programmes work, MBRSG can help turn public-sector experience into knowledge. This knowledge supports future policymaking, leadership development and institutional improvement.

MBRSG Expands Its Role in Government Leadership and Policy

The UAE Model Research Centre builds on MBRSG’s established role in government research, public policy and leadership development. The school has worked across research, executive education and capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening government capabilities.

The new centre gives those activities a more defined research platform focused specifically on the UAE’s own experience. It creates a space where government programmes can be examined, documented and transformed into educational and policy resources.

That combination of research and practical government experience could become particularly relevant as the UAE continues developing new approaches to digital government, administrative efficiency, innovation and economic transformation.

UAE Model Research Centre Creates a Long-Term Record of Government Experience

The value of the UAE Model Research Centre will ultimately depend on the quality and depth of the knowledge it produces. Its launch, however, establishes a clear mechanism for documenting the country’s government experience instead of leaving those lessons scattered across individual institutions and programmes.

Through research publications, case studies, policy briefs, executive education and international knowledge exchange, MBRSG is positioning the centre as a platform for studying the UAE model from the inside.

For the UAE, that means its government experience can become more than a collection of successful programmes. It can become a body of research that policymakers, academics, business leaders and institutions can examine, question and build upon.
