Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has concluded its official business mission to the Republic of Korea, led by H.E. Halima Humaid Ali Al Owais, Chairperson of the Sharjah Consultative Council and Board Member of SCCI.
The delegation comprised 30 prominent businesswomen, women entrepreneurs and representatives of Sharjah’s economic, investment and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The mission forms part of SCCI’s efforts to expand its international economic network, establish new channels for trade and investment cooperation, and strengthen the global market presence and competitiveness of Sharjah’s business community.
The mission featured an intensive programme of high-level official meetings, business-to-business engagements, field visits, and economic events held with the participation and cooperation of a network of UAE and Korean institutions.
These included the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park), and Korea-Arab Society (KAS). The programme helped strengthen direct business connectivity between the two sides while unlocking new opportunities to develop strategic partnerships, identify investment prospects, and exchange expertise and knowledge.
The Sharjah-Korea Businesswomen Forum emerged as a major milestone of the Sharjah Chamber’s mission, marked by the signing of two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)— the first between SCCI and KAS and the second with the Korea Venture Business Women Association (KOVWA). The agreements aim to deepen trade and economic cooperation while creating stronger business networks that connect businesswomen and entrepreneurs in Sharjah and Korea with new avenues for market access, growth, and strategic partnerships.
The forum also provided a direct platform bringing together businesswomen, economic leaders, and representatives of business, investment, and innovation support institutions from Sharjah and Korea. Its discussions addressed key priorities including accelerating women’s economic growth, expanding access to international markets, and strengthening the commercialisation of scientific research, innovation, and emerging technologies into high-value products and solutions with tangible industrial and commercial impact.
SCCI’s business mission to Korea featured a series of B2B meetings connecting businesswomen and representatives of companies and institutions from Sharjah and South Korea to explore cooperation opportunities across high-growth sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, energy and smart mobility.
The agenda also included field visits to Korean enterprises and specialised institutions and facilities, notably the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), designed by the late globally acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid, alongside leading design and textile markets in the area.
Furthermore, the Sharjah Chamber’s delegation visited Beauty Play to gain insights into Korea’s advanced cosmetics ecosystem, particularly its approaches to industry development. The delegation also participated in the Global Economic Cooperation Forum, providing additional opportunities for networking and economic cooperation.
The programme also featured a cultural and heritage tour of the National Museum of Korea, giving the delegation an opportunity to explore the country’s history and rich cultural and civilisational heritage.
H.E. Halima Humaid Ali Al Owais said the Sharjah Chamber’s mission successfully enhanced the visibility and market presence of Sharjah’s business community in Korea, while creating new pathways for strategic partnerships among women entrepreneurs, companies, and institutions from both sides.
“The mission’s comprehensive agenda of business meetings, field visits, and discussions enabled the delegation to gain first-hand insights into investment opportunities, explore cooperation prospects with Korean counterparts, and showcase Sharjah’s investment advantages to investors and businesses. The B2B engagements further helped identify high-potential areas for cooperation, particularly in technology and innovation, advanced industries, healthcare, and trade,” she added.
The mission coincided with Emirati Women’s Day on 28 August, marked by a special event organised by the UAE Embassy in Seoul to celebrate the achievements of Emirati women and highlight their expanding role in business and investment leadership, as well as their contribution to building and strengthening economic partnerships with global markets.
The event also featured a panel discussion organised by the Sharjah Chamber, bringing together prominent Emirati businesswomen from the mission delegation. They shared their entrepreneurial experiences, perspectives on the evolving role of women in the economy, and the key opportunities and challenges they encountered throughout their careers.
