Mirae Asset Global Investments has expanded its Middle East presence with a new office in Dubai International Financial Centre, giving the global asset manager a stronger base for reaching institutional investors, family offices and professional clients across the Gulf.
The move goes beyond simply opening another regional office. Mirae Asset Investment Managers (DIFC) Limited has also received regulatory approval from the Dubai Financial Services Authority, giving the company room to grow its investment and fund distribution business from Dubai.
Mirae Asset Strengthens Its Presence in Dubai
The new Mirae Asset DIFC office gives the company a more direct connection to investors across the UAE and the wider Gulf. Located within one of the region’s most established financial centres, the office puts Mirae Asset closer to institutional clients, family offices, investment partners and distributors that increasingly use Dubai as a base for regional investment activity.
The expansion also gives Mirae Asset another route into markets beyond the UAE. Dubai has become a natural meeting point for capital from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Africa, making it an attractive location for an asset manager with a large international footprint. Mirae Asset Global Investments manages more than US$400 billion globally and operates across multiple major financial markets.
DFSA Category 3C Licence Supports Regional Expansion
A key part of the expansion is the Prudential Category 3C Regulatory Licence granted by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The licence allows Mirae Asset Investment Managers (DIFC) Limited to conduct regulated investment activities within DIFC and support the distribution and management of investment products for professional and institutional investors.
That gives the Dubai office more substance than a representative presence. Mirae Asset can use DIFC as an operating platform for building relationships, introducing investment strategies and serving sophisticated investors across the GCC. The company already offers exposure to equities, fixed income, exchange-traded funds, multi-asset strategies, private markets and alternative investments through its international network.
GCC Institutional Investors Are a Major Target
Mirae Asset is placing institutional investors and family offices near the centre of its Middle East strategy. Gulf markets have built substantial pools of private and institutional capital, while regional investors have also become more active in global equities, alternatives, private markets and thematic investments.
The DIFC operation brings Mirae Asset closer to those investors instead of trying to serve them almost entirely from overseas offices. That physical presence can matter in asset management, particularly where long-term relationships, regulatory familiarity and direct access to investment teams influence where institutions allocate capital.
Mirae Asset Plans to Leverage Its India Expertise
The company also sees its established Indian investment business as an advantage in the Middle East. Mirae Asset has built a significant presence in India, and its Dubai operation gives the group another channel for offering India-focused investment strategies to investors across the Gulf.
That connection is particularly relevant in the UAE, where commercial and investment ties with India remain strong. A large Indian business and professional community also operates across the Gulf, giving Mirae Asset an existing market with familiarity around Indian investment opportunities.
Swarup Mohanty, Non-Executive Director of Mirae Asset Investment Managers (DIFC) Ltd., said the new operation would draw on the company’s global capabilities and its experience in India to provide regional investors with access to both Indian and international investment strategies.
Dubai Becomes More Important to Mirae Asset’s Global Network
Opening a regulated operation in DIFC places Dubai more firmly inside Mirae Asset’s international business structure. The company already operates across major financial centres worldwide, but the Middle East has become increasingly difficult for global investment firms to treat as a secondary market.
Young Kim, President and Chief Global Officer of Mirae Asset Global Investments, said the DIFC expansion represents an important step in the company’s regional growth strategy. The group expects its Dubai presence to support stronger distribution, closer client relationships and broader access to global investment opportunities for Middle Eastern investors.
Dubai gives the company a practical location for doing exactly that. The city provides connectivity across the Gulf while also linking financial flows between Asia, Europe and Africa.
DIFC Continues to Attract Global Asset Managers
Mirae Asset joins a rapidly expanding wealth and asset management community inside DIFC. The financial centre now hosts thousands of active registered companies and hundreds of firms operating across wealth management, asset management, banking, insurance, fintech and related financial services.
That ecosystem is one of DIFC’s biggest attractions. Global firms entering the centre gain proximity to banks, investment companies, family offices, professional advisers, regulators and institutional investors within the same financial district.
DIFC Authority Chief Executive Officer Arif Amiri said Mirae Asset’s arrival strengthens Dubai’s position as a global wealth and asset management hub. Its international investment capabilities can also help connect investors based in the Middle East with opportunities across Asia and other global markets.
Why Mirae Asset Chose DIFC
DIFC offers a combination that international financial firms increasingly look for when entering the Middle East: an established regulatory environment, access to regional capital, proximity to institutional investors and a financial ecosystem already populated by major global companies.
For Mirae Asset, setting up within DIFC creates a regulated gateway into the GCC rather than requiring the company to approach each market solely from offices outside the region. It also supports more direct engagement with clients who increasingly expect global asset managers to maintain a meaningful local presence.
The decision reflects a wider trend across Dubai. International investment companies are no longer treating the city merely as a representative location. Many are building regulated businesses there and using Dubai as a genuine operating centre for the wider Middle East.
What the Expansion Means for Dubai’s Financial Sector
The arrival of Mirae Asset adds another major international investment name to Dubai’s financial sector at a time when the emirate is competing more aggressively for global capital, wealth management firms and family offices.
Each new regulated asset manager adds more depth to the ecosystem. Investors gain access to additional strategies and international markets, while financial companies gain a larger pool of potential clients, partners and specialised service providers.
Mirae Asset’s scale makes the development especially significant. Its global investment network and large asset base bring another connection between Dubai and some of the world’s fastest-growing capital markets.
Mirae Asset’s Middle East Ambitions Look Bigger Than One Office
The new Mirae Asset DIFC office may be the most visible part of the announcement, but the wider strategy is about building a stronger Middle East investment business.
With regulatory approval in place, the company can deepen its relationships with professional investors, introduce a wider range of investment strategies and use Dubai as a bridge between Gulf capital and opportunities elsewhere in the world.
For DIFC, the expansion reinforces its growing appeal to global asset managers. For Mirae Asset, it provides something equally valuable: a regulated base inside one of the Middle East’s most important financial centres, with direct access to a region holding enormous pools of investable capital.
The office is new. The opportunity Mirae Asset is targeting is much larger.
