DMCC Welcomes El Salvador Ambassador to UAE | Coffee, Trade & Digital Assets

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) welcomed H.E. Gerardo Perez, Ambassador of El Salvador to the UAE, during a visit to the DMCC Coffee Centre. This visit reinforced growing opportunities between El Salvador and the UAE across coffee, logistics, maritime trade and digital assets.

The visit highlighted El Salvador’s strong reputation in the global specialty coffee market, particularly through premium varieties such as Pacamara and Bourbon. For example, Pacamara, known as a Cup of Excellence champion, has achieved Presidential Coffee scores above 90. Meanwhile, Bourbon remains a defining heirloom variety closely linked to El Salvador’s coffee origin identity.

During the tour, representatives inspected Natural Anaerobico Arabica from the 2024–2025 harvest. This further demonstrated El Salvador’s position as a high-value coffee origin operating at the top end of the specialty market.

El Salvador’s Specialty Coffee Potential in the UAE

The UAE continues to strengthen its role as a global hub for commodity trade. Dubai serves as a key gateway for coffee producers seeking access to the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Through the DMCC Coffee Centre, international coffee producers, exporters and traders can access world-class infrastructure for storage, processing, roasting, packaging and distribution. In turn, for Salvadoran coffee exporters, this creates a significant opportunity to expand their reach into fast-growing consumer markets.

El Salvador’s premium Arabica coffee varieties are well positioned to meet demand from specialty coffee roasters, retailers and hospitality brands across the region.

Logistics and Maritime Trade Opportunities

Beyond coffee, El Salvador is also investing heavily in logistics infrastructure. The country is advancing a $1.62 billion partnership between Yılport and CEPA to modernise Acajutla Port and reactivate La Unión Port as a regional logistics gateway.

This development is expected to strengthen El Salvador’s position in global trade routes. It will also support greater export capacity across commodities, agriculture and industrial goods.

DMCC’s Maritime Centre, launched in April 2026, is designed to bring together shipping, trade finance, insurance, risk management and digital documentation under one ecosystem. In addition, its connection with DMCC FinX further supports businesses seeking integrated financial and trade solutions.

For El Salvador, this creates a pathway to connect port modernisation efforts with Dubai’s advanced trade infrastructure.

Digital Assets and Commodity Tokenisation

El Salvador has been one of the earliest sovereign adopters of Bitcoin and digital assets, making it a notable player in the evolution of digital finance.

DMCC is also advancing the use of digital assets in commodity markets through its Tradeflow platform. The platform has already supported the tokenisation of real-world commodities, including the world’s largest silver bar under a regulated framework overseen by the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA).

Future phases are expected to include gold and diamonds, further strengthening Dubai’s role in regulated commodity tokenisation.

Through the DMCC Crypto Centre and DMCC FinX, Salvadoran exporters, investors and commodity businesses can explore new ways to connect physical trade with digital capital markets.

Strengthening UAE-El Salvador Trade Relations

The visit by H.E. Gerardo Perez reflects the growing potential for stronger trade relations between El Salvador and the UAE. From specialty coffee exports to maritime logistics and digital finance, both markets have opportunities to build deeper commercial links.

For El Salvador, Dubai offers access to a globally connected trade ecosystem. For DMCC, engagement with Salvadoran producers and investors supports its wider mission to connect global commodity markets through innovation, infrastructure and international partnerships.

As El Salvador continues to modernise its logistics sector and expand its presence in specialty commodities and digital assets, DMCC remains a strategic platform for Salvadoran businesses seeking growth in the UAE and beyond.
