Ajman Municipality Launches AI Makers Journey to Push AI Adoption Inside Government

Ajman Municipality AI Makers Journey

Ajman is putting artificial intelligence closer to the desks of government employees, not just inside strategy documents.

The Ajman X Centre, part of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, has launched the AI Makers Journey initiative, a new programme designed to help employees turn AI ideas into working projects that can support public services and improve internal operations.

It is a practical move. Not a conference slogan. Not another broad announcement about digital transformation. The programme is aimed at giving staff the knowledge, tools, and structure to build AI-based solutions that can actually be tested inside the department.

Ajman X Centre Brings AI Training Into Real Government Work

The AI Makers Journey initiative supports Ajman Municipality’s wider goal of developing innovation incubators and backing scientific research and innovation programmes. It also fits into the UAE Government’s broader push to speed up the use of artificial intelligence across public services.

That part matters because government AI adoption can easily stay stuck at the policy level. Ajman appears to be taking a more hands-on route. Employees will not only learn about AI applications. They will be expected to shape ideas, build prototypes, present them, and have those projects evaluated.

In other words, this is not training for the sake of certificates. It is training with a project at the end.

First Phase Targets 30 Employees

The first phase of the AI Makers Journey initiative will target 30 employees. Ajman Municipality is implementing the programme in partnership with Netways and AI Brains, using an integrated practical model focused on turning innovative concepts into projects with institutional impact.

That number may sound small at first. But for a pilot-style government innovation programme, it makes sense. A smaller group can test the model, build early use cases, and show whether the approach can be expanded later.

The initiative was inaugurated by Eng. Noura Rashid Shattaf, Executive Director of the Strategy and Customer Happiness Sector, who reaffirmed the department’s focus on building a stronger culture of innovation and deploying AI technologies across institutional operations.

From AI Ideas to Working Prototypes

Sheikha Dr. Noura Humaid Al Nuaimi, Innovation Advisor and Director of the Ajman X Centre, said the initiative provides a practical pathway for transforming AI ideas into projects that can improve services, support operational efficiency, and promote innovation inside the department.

The structure is important. Employees begin by developing their knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence applications. After that, they move into project creation, prototype presentation, evaluation, and recognition of the best ideas that can be implemented.

That is where the initiative becomes more interesting. It treats AI as something employees can build around their own workplace problems. A slow process. A repeated task. A service gap. A customer journey that feels too manual. These are the kinds of issues where practical AI projects can start to show value.

Why This Matters for Ajman’s Digital Government Push

Ajman has already been moving toward a wider AI agenda. In May 2026, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi directed the implementation of 25 artificial intelligence initiatives within Ajman Municipality and Planning Department by September 2026 to improve government services and operational efficiency.

That gives the AI Makers Journey more context. It is not a standalone training exercise. It sits inside a bigger shift toward AI-enabled public service delivery, stronger internal efficiency, and more future-ready government operations.

The programme also follows the launch of the Ajman Artificial Intelligence Programme, which aims to support government services, improve efficiency, and align with Ajman Vision 2030. Ajman Government has also signaled plans for 100 AI initiatives across the eight pillars of Ajman Vision 2030.

Building AI Talent From Inside the Institution

One of the smarter parts of the initiative is its focus on internal talent.

Governments often bring in external technology partners, deploy platforms, and then expect employees to adapt quickly. That can work, but only to a point. AI adoption becomes stronger when staff understand the tools, trust the process, and know how to spot use cases from inside their own departments.

The AI Makers Journey seems designed around that exact gap. It aims to prepare qualified employees who can lead AI initiatives, build prototypes, and apply artificial intelligence to workplace challenges and service opportunities.

For Ajman Municipality, this could help reduce dependence on top-down digital transformation alone. The people using the systems every day may start shaping the next round of solutions.

Ajman’s AI Push Is Becoming More Practical

The launch of AI Makers Journey shows how Ajman Municipality is trying to move AI from policy language into actual institutional practice.

The real test will come later. Which prototypes will be selected? Which ones will be implemented? Will they improve service speed, customer experience, or internal workflows in a measurable way?

For now, the direction is clear. Ajman is not only talking about artificial intelligence as a future priority. It is training employees to build with it, test it, and use it inside government work.
