Abu Dhabi Airports is accelerating the expansion of its free zone and logistics infrastructure. This is part of broader efforts to position Abu Dhabi as a leading regional trade and supply chain hub. Through Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone (ADAFZ), the airport operator is introducing new industrial and warehousing developments. These are designed to attract international investors, logistics operators, and SMEs.
The latest expansion plans include the development of multiple Light Industrial Units (LIUs). These will cover approximately 200,000 square feet within the Southside Logistics area, which is adjacent to the cargo terminal. The new facilities will support freight forwarding, light manufacturing, e-commerce, airport support services, retail, and technology.
ADAFZ Supports Growing Demand for Logistics and Industrial Space
The expansion comes amid increasing demand for scalable logistics and industrial facilities in the UAE’s free zone sector. Abu Dhabi Airports stated that the new units are intended to provide cost-effective entry solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. In addition, they will allow room for operational growth.
According to Maureen Bannerman, Chief Commercial Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, ADAFZ currently manages more than 100 industrial units and over 1,000 real estate units. These units span its free zones and airport facilities. The new development will strengthen the organisation’s logistics and commercial ecosystem.
The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s long-term economic diversification strategy. This strategy focuses on enhancing trade infrastructure, increasing foreign direct investment, and supporting non-oil sectors.
Strategic Warehousing Projects Enhance Trade Connectivity
In addition to the LIU developments, ADAFZ recently partnered with MSM Logistic to build a strategic warehousing facility in Abu Dhabi’s Al Falah District. The project strengthens regional supply chain operations and provides flexible storage solutions for local and international businesses.
The Al Falah District development spans approximately 28,623 square metres and is positioned near Zayed International Airport. This location enhances multimodal logistics connectivity across the UAE and GCC markets.
Industry analysts note that airport-linked free zones continue to play a major role in the UAE’s logistics growth. This is due to their proximity to cargo terminals, ports, and regional transportation corridors.
